Week 2: Day 5: Wasting Away

Activity 1: Off the Menu
I think you should be fined $100,000 for overfishing because if you don’t get fined so much some people
might keep on overfishing and then there could be no fish left.

Activity 2: The Black Drain
The Manawatu river is near Palmerston North, Ashburton, Woodville, Mangatainoka and Pahiatua.
People are cleaning the Manawatu river.
The Heathcote river is in Christchurch. People are stabilizing the banks of the Heathcote river.

Activity 3: Faded Glory

  1. Sell backing and lemonade
  2. Sell tickets for a show
  3. Walk peoples dogs

  1. Hi Lucy!

Really great to see another days worth of activities in the bag for you awesome work!

    Activity One:
This is great that you think the fines should stay to stop overfishing Lucy.
    I agree with you!
In order to get full points for this activity I am needing you to give a little bit more detail to this answer.
    - Are there any other reasons the fines should stay?
    - Do you know how much over-fishing happens in a year in New Zealand?
    - How do you feel about fish potentially going extinct due to fishing?

Hopefully these questions might help you to extend your idea a little bit and give the reader some further information as to why it is important we aren't over fishing!

I think when the fines are this huge you would have to be pretty silly to be fishing where you are not supposed to or overfishing when you shouldn't be...
Some people must have a lot of money they don't mind loosing!
I could not imagine spending that amount of money on a fine - I would be so sad!!

    Activity Two:

Great job finding two polluted rivers around New Zealand Lucy. I like that you have made sure to name the river and give its location. :)

Do you know what specifically people are doing to clean up the Manawatu River?
If you do make sure to add it to your post! Would be really interesting :)

I love to swim in the river during the summer, it would be a shame if we couldn't do that anymore - Do you swim in your local river during the summer?
    I hope yours is pollution-free!

It's sad that our rivers are not being taken care of the way they should be, I believe we shouldn't have any polluted rivers due to human activity - I am really happy to hear that people are taking action though!
    What do you think?
Do you think there are sollutions to this problem that we haven't thought of yet?

    Activity Three:
I think you have come up with three stellar ideas Lucy! I am sure you would raise lots of funds for the Great Barrier Reef. :)
In order to get full points for this activity you are just needing to add a little bit more detail to your ideas.

I like the idea of a bake sale and selling lemonade!
Have you done this before to make some extra money or maybe as a part of a school fundraiser?
What would you sell in your bake sale? ...I think I would make lollie cake! :)

Selling tickets to a show is a good idea - What would the show be?
Would you have a school production?

Walking peoples dogs is an excellent way to make money, especially since it doesn't cost anything!
How many people do you think you would need to be on your dog walking team?
How much would you charge per walk?

I am looking forward to seeing what ideas you might add to your activities - I am enjoying reading your blog Lucy, just remember to add lots of details to your upcoming posts! You are a star I know you can do it! :)

    Nga mihi,
    Ellee :)
