Week 3: Day 3: Taking Flight

Activity 1: Bird of the Year!
I chose the Banded Dotterel. They live along the seashore and often you will see them run then stop
as the search for invertebrates to eat.

Activity 2: Flying Foxes
I would like to fly so I wouldn't have to take long car rides.

Activity 3: Wind Beneath My Wings

  1. Hi Lucy!

Woah! Half way through week three - amazing!... you are getting so close to the end of the Summer Learning Journey! Keep up the awesome work. :)

    Activity One:
Thank you for sharing some information on the Banded Dotterel! I have not heard of this bird before ...maybe I have seen them running along the beach I'm not sure! :)

In order to get full points for this activity you are needing to add a little bit more details to our post about the Banded Dotterel.
    You could talk about:
    - Why you think it should be bird of the year?
    - Where in New Zealand do they live?
    - Are they endangered?
    - Are they a native bird?

Hopefully these questions will help you to add to your post Lucy, I look forward to reading the information you find. :)

    Activity Two:
That's really awesome that you would pick flying as your super power Lucy.
To get full points for this activity you are needing to add a little bit more details to your post.
    Where would you fly to?
Is there a long car ride you take often that you wouldn't have to do anymore?
Would you use your flying skills for anything else?

I think if I had a super power I would like to be able to be super smart!
There is a character on a movie that I really like and he becomes super smart and is able to learn things really quickly like languages, playing musical instruments and maths! (I have never been too good at math!)
I also like this power as he was able to use it to help himself but also other people which I think was pretty cool.

    Activity Three:
    Woah!
The flyin squirrel is pretty awesome! Thanks for sharing all of this information Lucy - I feel like I learnt a lot!
I also like how you have presented your DLO, the colours are really eye-catching and it is a very cool in-action shot of the squirrel! :)

It's pretty crazy that they can live for double the years and then some in a zoo - I don't know if I really like the idea of animals being kept in zoo's though. What do you think?

That is pretty amazing that they steer with their tails in the air! I wouldn't have guessed that, I would have thought that they would have to fly in a straight line - I wonder how far they can fly?

Great work Lucy - Remember to keep working on adding detail to your posts, you have really awesome ideas they just need a little bit more information with them! :)

    Nga mihi,
    Ellee :)

  2. I don't like animals being kept in a zoo unless they are endangered and the zoo is for protecting endangered animals.
